Story Begins.......the following is an excerpt from the
Livingston County Historical of 1888 Portrait and Biographical Album, published
in 1888 by Chapman Brothers out of Chicago - ref: Bernard Grennan and Family
John Grennan, b. abt.
1800, Co. Kings, Ireland, d. same place unknown when, m. Mary Minnick, b. Co.
Kings, Ireland, came to America after John's death with her children, living a
considerable time in IL, spending her last years in NY State, when died is
unknown.
Mary nee Minnick Grennan, mother of 7 sons, and 2 daughters: Mathew (died in
Ireland), James, Rosa, Bernard, Mike, Peter, John, Joseph and Mary. All but
Mathew came to America
Bernard Grennan 4th oldest, reared in Ireland, came to America living in NY
State, then the City, building docks for 5-6 years, then moving to Will Co., IL
for a few months, before moving to Morris, Grundy Co., IL, working for 3 years
at the pumping station of the Rock Island Railroad.
In 1864, Bernard moved to Livingston Co., and for 7 years farmed rented land in
Nevada Township. For 3 years he resided on 80 acres he purchased in Odell
Township before selling and purchasing 160 acres, his present homestead, until
his death 4th of October, 1887.
The
Journey now is to connect John Grennan & son Bernard Grennan (1821), Joseph
Grennan (1851 NY) to
Michael Grennan (1820) & son Joseph W. Grennan (1856 NJ) - could Michael be
the Mike above, brother to Bernard, son of Mary nee Minnick & John Grennan ?

I found in 1900, Emily Grennan, b. May 1827,
Ireland, living in Dwight, Livingston Co., IL, with son Michael, b. Nov 1867,
from the 1880 census, about a 3-4 discrepancy in birth years between 1880 & 1900
censuses.
I began looking in 1860, since Joseph W. is b. abt. 1856, should
appear in the 1860 census, however where, NY, NJ or IL ??
And going from 1880 & 1900 census, also the WWI draft records, we
can place Grennan, Grenan, Grennen, Grenen, Grenner's in Grundy Co., Livingston
Co., LaSalle Co. and townships/post offices of Saratoga/Morris, Dwight, Nevada,
Odell & Osage
