Note: Richard was born as Begnal, school records 9 Sep 1930, show Richard N. Young, parents Earl Young (father), Mrs E. Rose (mother) & step-father William Irby. I know who William Irby is, not Earl Young or Mrs. E. Rose, and why on Richard's school records do not show his parents as Thelma Ferne Perry & Clifford Franklin Begnal. First listed address per school records as 1054 25th St. which should map to 1054 West 25th St., San Pedro.

Note: Per Richard's 1941 SS-5 Application Richard appears to have a problem writing Newton as his Given name, and his Father is listed as Young, and Thelma as Perry, which Richard may not know Clifford's last name is Begnal, not Young. I have no other record other than Richard's birth certificate showing born as Newton Richard Begnal, prior to 28 Mar 1942, marriage record

1942, 28 Mar - my Father is listed as Richard N. Begnal, married to Patricia V. Arnold, witnessed by W.L. Irby, Thelma Fern Irby & Mildred Miller. Address on the Marriage Certificate is 138 1/2 East 53rd Los Angeles, CA. Presuming their residence.

1942, 24 Jul - Richard N. Young (18) enlists in the Army, 130th Ordnance Battalion, stationed at Camp Polk, LA, Technician 5th Grade, Parts Clerk.

1942, 28 Oct - Anna Laura Ferne Begnal, at the Bixby Knolls Maternity Hospital, located 3747 Atlantic Avenue in the Bixby Knolls section of Long Beach, which is between Wardlow Rd and Del Amo Blvd. Born to Patricia Victoria Arnold, age 16, Richard, a Private in Army (18 yrs 3 mos). Living at 1424 W. 255th St. Harbor City, CA. So Richard may already have been at Camp Polk, when Anna Laura was born.

However, per Richard's Enlistment Record he is of the 130th Ordnance Battalion, Stationed at Camp Polk, LA, (1941 Photo of Camp Polk, LA) a Technician 5th Grade, Parts Clerk, Separated Camp Beale, CA 13 Nov 1944. I do not know when Richard left for Camp Polk in 1942/1943.

Note: Patricia Arnold, b. 4 Apr 1928, on 28 Oct 1942, was 14 yrs, 6 mos & 24 days old. Meaning she became pregnant at age 13, in Feb 1942. And when Richard married Patricia on 28 Mar 1942, Patricia was 13 yrs, 11 mos, 24 days old. Which the Marriage License does not state either's age. And possibly why Richard & Patricia married in AZ. Also Richard was not in the Army as of 28 Mar, and there is an Army base in Yuma, the Yuma Proving Ground. When I was in the Marines, I was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), Yuma AZ.

1944, 13 Nov after 2 yrs 3 mos 20 days, Richard is discharged from the Army, and his enlistment record states he was Single, however Richard & Patricia divorce 6 Jul 1945, Los Angeles.

1945, 24 Jan - Susan Marie came into the world, Patricia V. nee Arnold Begnal, is 16 yrs, 9 mos & 16 days old, becoming pregnant in Apr 1944. Richard N. Begnal Young, is stationed at Comp Polk, LA

And then the Affidavit, 1 Jun 1945, that Pansy swears neither Anna Laura Begnal and Susan Marie Begnal, that Richard Newton Begnal is not the father of either minor children.

The above sure puts a different spin on things & perspective...especially the ages of Patricia, unless she was older, but we have her birth record 4 Apr 1928, Orange County, mother's maiden name Deseran, and it lists Pansy Victoria Arnold.

It is possible that Richard impregnated Pansy before marrying, why they married, went into the Army, was in LA when Anna Laura was born, however unless Richard came home on leave from Louisiana in Apr 1944, or Patricia went to Louisiana, the chances are slim to none Richard was your Father too. Which we know about the adoption.
