FYI: All Record Look-ups require Basic Information if known - Providing as thorough information facilitates a successful search,

  • First Name and Surname - if known, middle initial/name

  • Year of birth year (Month/Year if known)

  • Place of Birth (County, State or Country) - if known,  also Parents birthplace, if applicable to the search

  • Spouse's Name, same information, if applicable to the search

  • Children Names, same information, of any known children, living with Parent(s) if applicable to the search

  • Any additional information, i.e. Occupation, Military Service, Any Record you may know of/have, Other Census Years found - please keep information brief concise/succinct as possible

  • Research Steps to locate Your Ancestor in the Census

If making a Census Request, the 1880 census is a Free database look-up at Ancestry.com, and is the only Federal Census that indexes Occupation of Head of House.

    • 1790-1840 census, only indexes the Head of House, all others by age group & sex, unknown if each person is related to head of house

    • 1850-1930 census, index each person living at the same residence/location

    • 1850-1870 census, indexes each person, not their relation to head of house

    • 1880-1930 census, indexes each person and their relation to head of house

    • 1890 census, Fragmented - were destroyed by a fire at the Commerce Department in Washington, DC on 10 January 1921

    • 1900-1920 census, indexes Immigration Year - 1930 does not index, however Immigration is annotated on the Document

    • 1900-1910 census, provides How Many Children born to a Living Mother, and how many Children are living

To View all Federal Census Years by Individual Census Year, the Information that can be used if provided to locate your Ancestor/Family

Note: Not all information contained in any or all documents maybe accurate.  Expect the Unexpected

    1. Names can be found spelled of any variations, not always exactly spelled as Your Ancestor spelled their name or the Recording Official of that Document.

Age/Year born can be off by a couple or more years.

    2. Place of Birth may not be their actual place of birth i.e. County, State or Country where Your Ancestor was born.

    3. Those having middle names, and why it is nice if known their middle initial/full middle name, as Your Ancestor in any Recorded Document may have gone by another name, their middle name or nickname.

    4. I have found Ancestor's same Census Year, recorded in two different Cities/Townships and States.

    5. Not Everyone is Indexed, or a Record may not be found, which may require more information, too many possibilities of persons with very common names, born abt. same year and place of birth, living same County & State.

    6. Not all Records dating back to 1620, are scanned and indexed of every Township/City/Other, County & State.  Or since that State's Statehood and Records may not have been kept or are available.  Some Records have been lost by Fire or other Natural Disaster or to Fragile to be scanned and indexed or transcribed.

    7. I have experience in searching for over 500 others, of thousands of Surnames & Individuals/Families & records, of the last 6 years, besides my own personal research which I began in 1992.  I have Computer Experience going back to 1982, and before the Internet became available for Users/Genealogy Research or that of Rootsweb & Ancestry.com and other genealogical record search sites.  Contact Doc

1890 - The surviving fragments consists of 1,233 pages or pieces, including enumerations for Alabama, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Dakota, and Texas. The records of only 6,160 of the 62,979,766 people enumerated survived the fire.

The original 1890 census enumerated people differently than ever before that time. Each family was enumerated on a separate sheet of paper. 1890 was the only year this was done.

The only surviving fragments are as follows:

    Alabama — Perry County
District of Columbia — Q, S, 13th, 14th, RQ, Corcoran, 15th, SE, and Roggs streets, and Johnson Avenue

Passenger/Immigration List Lookup - Please help me to save time by reading this entire section before making a request.

Please provide basic facts if known starting with Full given & surname middle initial if known, date of birth, birthplace, spouse full given & surname, middle initial if known, children full given & surname, middle initial if known, when and where born.  FYI - not all emigrates immigrated directly to the United States, some may have first gone to another country first then to the USA.  Passenger records may be indexed from the secondary country.  Also given and surnames maybe different

Approximate date they may have emigrated/immigrated, country of origin, if known port of departure and port of arrival.  Sometimes I have to locate the family in a census such as 1900, 1910 or 1920 if applicable which contain immigration/naturalization information.  FYI - passenger lists are inaccurate, do not expect age(s), name (given or surname), place of birth to be accurate for many reasons.

The following is a sample using my ancestors.

Ggf: Joannes Blaschkov, b. abt 1864, Austria/Hungary, John Blaszko (per his death certificate), d. 22 Oct 1954, West Haven, CT, m. Catherina Follrich, b. 10 May 1866, Austria, d. 4 Jan 1917, Orange, CT, immigrated about 1908.  Port of departure unknown, country of origin maybe either Hungary or Austria.  Found this family in the 1910 census living New York City.  May have immigrated as Blaskow.  It is known the entire family came at different times.

    Children:

    1) John Blaskow Jr., b. abt. 1889, Hungary, d. 7 Apr 1911, Bronx, NY
    2) Will Blaskow, b. abt. 1891, Hungary, d. 8 Jun 1908, age 18, Bronx, NY
